The male will almost definitely harass her, so it is best to have him neutered first. And don't let him anywhere near the female for at least 2 months after being neutered, because if he becomes sexually aroused shortly after the operation it could do him some serious damage.
I am so glad to see that at least there are a couple of people left who are concerned about their rabbits and want to find the right vet. Many vets don't know much about rabbits, and the numbers of rabbits that survive the neutering operation are surprisingly small. I would advise you to keep looking until you find the right vet that knows what he is talking about, and understands rabbits well.
