thanksWhat to know before getting a pet rabbit?
don't feed it lettuce. feed it EVERY day let it run around in the back yard( if you have a pool or a large backyard i suggest getting somme chicken wire and make a little arena so it can't get to farWhat to know before getting a pet rabbit?
they poo alot!.. get it a cheap litterbox and put litter itit and they should use it.. also I would recommend getting a nice hutch for it woth a closed space(nice for the winter.... anyway if you get them to use the box it is a whole lot cleaner!..... but It is good to have a place for them so hunker down at night so they can stay warm and feel safe.
That they taste delicious.

No, seriously, you need proper housing. That's a must. Also, they love hay. (you know, that dried grass, don't know what it is in english exactly) As for food, you can give them things off the table (vegetables), they go for any kind of vegetable and, contrary to popular belief, not only carrots. Except lettuce.
You will need to get a cage that also has a section where it is like a little closed room with a small opening for the rabbit to get through. Put some rabbit hay in there for bedding. this can be bought from a pet shop. You need to know if it drinks from a water bottle of it it drinks from a bowl. If you don't know buy both and see which one it uses. I always had both for my rabbit as she prefered the bowl but sometimes she would tip the bowl over so at least she would have the water in the bottle if i wasn't there to relace it. Have rabbit food available all the time. change it daily, don't just top it up. Clean the cage weekly but remove droppings daily. the dropping should be small round ball not runny. Too many fruits and vegetables can cause that so not too much. Buy a salt lick. My rabbit started biting and a friend told me that they sense the salt on our skin and they just want the salt. After she got her salt lick she never bit anyone again. The cage should be as big as possible and you should also let the rabbit get excercise daily if possible. Also the cage should not be in the sun. If it gets hot move the cage to a garage or somewhere cooler. They die in the heat. Depending on how cold it gets where you are you may need to bring the cage in in winter too.
You can get a rabbit care book from your local pet store and this will cover the basics .

As for things for your bunny you will need : a cage that will be big enough for it when it is full grown, food dishes, water dishes or bottles, food (of course),rabbit specific treats, toys(mine love the little cat balls with the bells in them but they need to be supervised because they can chew them pretty good)toys can also include baby people toys too. Like rattles and the large keys on a ring removed from the ring, and bedding, aspen is really good bedding No dust and not to aromatic for the bunny's lungs.Good luck and hope this was helpful.
The starting cost for a rabbit is around $250. That includes food, water bottle, food bowl, toys, litter box, bedding, cage, brush, nail clippers, timothy hay, etc. They also cost around $7 a month for food, timothy hay, bedding, and fresh fruits and veggies. Never feed a rabbit lettuce with light leaves. My rabbit loves spinach, cucumber, broccoli, apples, cantolope, green tea, carrots, and watermelon. They need to be let out of the cage for around 2 hours every day. I have a 6 month old rabbit that needs to be watched constantly while he is out of his cage, because he tries to go behind the dishwasher and I cant get him out. Rabbit's nails need to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks, you can do this or your vet can do this for around $13. Dont give a rabbit a bath unless it really needs it. Unless you keep your rabbit the perfect temperature after a bath, it will go into shock, and might die. If you are interested in getting your rabbit spayed/neutered, it will cost around $170, at least that is what my vet charges. Do not use clumping cat litter in the litter box. There is bedding made especially for rabbits, and other small pets. I use Kaytee brand bedding. Finally, toys. My rabbit hates store bought toys, but the second I give him a toilet paper roll, he is in heaven. He also likes paper towel rolls, phone books, and plastic bags. Make sure to give your rabbit wood blocks (make sure you get them from a pet store, some woods are toxic to rabbits) to chew on, otherwise the rabbits teeth will grow too long and your vet will have to trim them. Hope I helped.
